At RapidTechHosting, we’re always looking for ways to improve our services. As a result of this, we are now offering all shared and reseller hosting services with NGINX. While we use Apache as a web server, we will be using Nginx as a reverse proxy. This results in us better accommodating the diverse needs of the websites that we host, and a huge performance boost for your websites.

Did you know? Nginx powers several high-visibility sites, such as WordPress, Hulu, Github and SourceForge.

What’s in there for you?

The implementation of Nginx brings many benefits including the main one being PERFORMANCE & STABILITY:

Nginx is known for its high performance, stability, and low resource consumption. Unlike traditional servers, Nginx doesn’t rely on threads to handle requests. Instead, it uses a much more scalable event-driven (asynchronous) architecture. This architecture uses small, but more importantly, predictable amounts of memory under load.

Therefore, Performance is improved by the reverse proxy handling static content and caching separately from application requests.  This keeps unnecessary traffic off of the application servers.

It’s also much easier on our end to manage, update and secure a NGINX reverse proxy. This allows our administrators to easily update and keep the service as secure as possible.

As a result, this means that your sites can now load even faster, and at the same time use less of your allocated resources.

Any changes required at your end?

Absolutely, not. All shared/reseller hosting clients (including existing) can look forward to their websites being served with Nginx as of 26 May 2016. Soon, we will also be offering this as a free additional service for our VPS Plans. So let’s say you’re using cPanel with the standard Apache web server on your VPS, we will be able to setup NGINX as a reverse proxy for you, free of charge.

How did we migrate to NGINX?

As usual, we didn’t want to interrupt our customers’ workflow or cause any downtime whatsoever with the changes we’re doing. That is why we’ve done the switch in a few steps.

First, our technicians did detailed tests of this service in order to make sure that everything is working fine 100% before we introduce this change.

We then went ahead and gradually implemented the new configuration to our servers, one by one. As a result, we’re happy to say that we did not have any major issues during the process and it went as smooth as possible – with no noticeable downtime.

You can now just sit back and enjoy the improved performance of your website! As always, if you have any inquiries then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Kind Regards,

RapidTechHosting Staff

TL;DR: We now use Nginx on our shared and reseller hosting servers to provide high-performance page serving, so your websites load even faster and use fewer system resources.
